“Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts”~ Hard Times
Happy Birthday to the man who enriched the reading habits of our generation! He introduced us to the Victorian workhouses, to characters like Scrooge, Marley, Oliver Twist, Fagin, Dodger, Pip, Mrs Havisham, Bill Sikes, Nancy; they were all real people with flesh and blood to our young minds. Oliver’s plea “Please sir, I want some more”, used to haunt us. Our hearts went out to Bob Cratchit, Scrooge’s underpaid assistant. Bill Sikes and his vicious dog could curdle our blood!
Today is his 206th birthday. You are immortal Mr Dickens!
“A word in earnest is as good as speech“~ Oliver Twist
Here’s an earnest attempt to sketch Dickens. My tribute to him.
