Who knocks? That April!
Lock the door!
I will not be pursued!
He stayed away a year, to call
When I am occupied.
But trifles look so trivial
As soon as you have come,
That blame is just as dear as praise
And praise as mere as blame.
( from ‘Dear March come in…’ -Emily Dickinson)
Was Emily unhappy when April visited? Was it her wish to spend more time with March ? Probably April was an intruder, whose knock irritated Emily. For me April is a happy spirit, bright and cheerful who paints the town gold. How soon the boughs of the Golden Shower trees bend with drops of gold as April steps in! This is that time of the year I miss Cambodia. Our Bassac Garden in Phnom Penh, the many Golden Shower trees on either side of the streets dipped and decked in dazzling gold, the small mango tree in front of the house bearing hundreds of fruits. April is the month who has the Midas touch.
It’s a task to sweep the streets in the morning!
I am totally with the great Bard when it comes to April 🙂
When proud-pied April dress’d in all his trim
Hath put a spirit of youth in every thing,
That heavy Saturn laugh’d and leap’d with him~ Sonnet 98
Vishu, Kerala’s new year day falls in April. The Golden Shower (Indian Laburnum) trees in bloom are the heralds of the new year and symbolic of prosperity. The merry time of Summer Vacation starts from April, so April is always a much awaited guest.(https://rethyravi.wordpress.com/2014/04/08/midas-touch/)…
That was my musings on April and Vishu scribbled a couple of years back.
Adieu March! See you next year…Welcome April and bring us good cheer!
